a selfish new year resolution

This is the year of me:

I'm going to stand up for me

And not let those who've hurt me

Get close enough to do it again.

I'm going to take care of my needs

Before I take care of yours

And I'm going to do the important things

- write, read and daydream -

Before I do any chores.

I'm not going to buy magazines

Or watch tv programmes

That mess with my self esteem

And make me want to buy stuff

That I don't really need.

I'm going low maintenance -

In this year of 2010

Just being myself

Is going to be fine with me.
