fairweather friend

Fairweather friend, why did you leave?
When you were bereft, only I stayed true;
Only I stayed with you in the storm-dark deep,

Did you think that was easy for me?
To brave your storms, to hold fast to you?
Fairweather friend, why did you leave?

Winter comes - dark skies and swollen seas -
And as you needed me, now I need you
To stay with me in the storm-dark deep -

But you're too busy to help me,
Building sandcastles for any fool.
Fairweather friend, why did you leave?

I was your rock when you needed me,
But you are as fickle as a tidal pool,
Leaving me stranded in the storm-dark deep.

Down here there are no stars by which to see,
And the sea is deserted, but for this lonely fool.
Fairweather friend, why did you leave?
You have left me alone in the storm-dark deep.
